A long, long time ago, sweet Mother Earth felt very sleepy. She drifted down into the cool, dark ocean waters looking for a quiet place to rest. But down in the deep, the little trees, cheerful birds, and gentle rivers missed the warm golden sunshine. Earth needed a kind friend to help her rise back up into the light.
Loving Lord Vishnu saw that Earth needed help. With a soft flash of bright golden light, he took the form of Varaha, a grand and mighty boar! Varaha was big and strong, but he had the kindest eyes and a soft, happy heart. He gave a gentle snort, ready to dive down and rescue his dear friend.
With a big, playful splash, Varaha leaped into the cosmic sea! He kicked his paws and swam past cheerful sea turtles and bright blue fish. Down, down, down he swam, following the sweet, cozy scent of fresh green grass and blooming flowers.
At the very bottom of the sea, Varaha found Earth resting peacefully. Very gently, so he would not wake a single sleeping butterfree or break a single flower stem, Varaha lifted Earth onto his strong, gleaming white tusk. He held her as carefully as a mother holding a slumbering baby.
Varaha rose up through the waves and set Earth safely back into the blue sky. The warm sun shone brightly, and the trees blossomed with joy! Varaha smiled softly at the happy world, reminding everyone to always love and protect our wonderful home.
Great strength is best used with kindness and care to protect our beautiful Earth.
